On October 1, 2011 Lynn and Stuart Epstein, owners of Devlin McNiff Real Estate associated with Halstead Property. A little history of our long tenure and how and why we are now Devlin McNiff Halstead Property follows.
Sheila Devlin began her real estate company in our current location at 3 North Main Street, East Hampton in the mid 60’s. She was a veritable go getter, developing relationships with many builders. To this day, we have people who come to the office and say, “Sheila sold me my house.” In 1982 John McNiff and his wife Barbara purchased the agency and renamed it Devlin McNiff. John’s research consisted of sitting across the street at what was then the Windmill Deli (now Citarella) and watching people come and go to Sheila Devlin Real Estate. He realized “a lot of people go in there” and bought the place.
In 1991, Stuart and Lynn Epstein purchased the agency from the McNiffs. Stuart had spent 20 years in the advertising business in NYC – handling accounts such a Nikon, Volvo and Purdue Chicken - but had wanted to own his own business. Lynn had been a real estate broker in Westchester County. Buying Devlin McNiff was a good fit for the couple. They started with five agents in a terrible market but quickly built a thriving business. Devlin came with a well deserved reputation for integrity and a cooperative spirit which the Epstein’s embraced and perpetuated with great success.
After 20 years and thousands of happy customers and clients later, the Epsteins decided to associate with Halstead Property. Halstead is the largest agency in the tri-state area with over 900 agents. It has national as well as international affliations second to none. Its marketing and technology support staff of 25 are energetic and highly knowledgeable men and women ready to assist Devlin with any and all of their marketing needs. Diane Ramirez, the widely respected president of Halstead, began her career with Clark Halstead and has built Halstead Property to become the powerhouse that it is today.
Halstead Property is privately owned so although the company is large, it’s not bogged down in a corporate structure. Each of its 21 (and counting) offices maintain their own special and unique character. What our partnership does gain from Halstead, is incredible support, strong referral opportunities, and a powerful global reach.
Devlin McNiff Halstead Property is a member of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, and their Luxury Portfolio division, Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate as well as the only company in the US to belong to EREN – European Real Estate Network. Make no mistake, these Associations assure our company of having a global reach second to none.
The Epstein’s and their agent’s pride themselves on listing and selling everything from beach bungalows in Montauk to sprawling estates in Sagaponack. Our success comes from a business philosophy that demands that we treat every client and customer with a high degree of service and integrity regardless of budget. Combining Halstead Property’s clout and reach with Devlin’s local knowledge and reputation for professionalism is the driving force behind the new Devlin McNiff Halstead Property.
